About Kenton

storytelling kahuna

let's make waves and ride them together!

I have been painting stories in my head...

I have been painting stories in my head and bringing them to life on stage, in writing, through performance, and on film since I was a kid. I think I got hooked on storytelling with “show & tell” in kindergarten.

Looking back, I have always been a creative and a visual storyteller—from taking photos and playing with a Super 8 camera, thanks to mentors Peter and Michael, to performing monologues and writing and acting in youth group sketches. A friend once told me storytelling was my “spiritual food.” I think they were right.

Kahlil Gibran wrote, “It has been said that next to hunger and thirst, our most basic human need is for storytelling.” We need human storytellers. Stories are part of how we connect, understand one another, survive, and thrive.

You may be like me—full of ideas and dreaming about stories, but sometimes held back by the tools or not knowing where to begin. That is why I created the Film Creators Workshop. It is for the creative and storyteller in all of us.

The power to make films is now literally at our fingertips...

The power to make films is now literally at our fingertips. And before we even get to AI, I believe we need to start with the human part: learning how to build, shape, and tell a story ourselves.

I have taught more than 400 students in film production and screenwriting and over 700 students in film theory, digital media development, and social media marketing. Since 2010, I have also led film and media workshops for universities, creative arts programs, film schools, and acting schools.

After years of helping clients, organizations, and students tell their stories, I am also bringing more of my own stories to life—both behind and in front of the camera.

Being able to sit in the seat of the clients and organizations I have worked with and help tell their stories powerfully has prepared me to think more deeply about the stories I need to tell. Teaching students who want to create has also inspired me to remain a lifelong learner.

Our time is now to share our stories.

Let’s do it.

  • I have so many ideas and want to take a stab and making my stories into films.   Kenton’s the person I am turning to and he does in real time (in real person), not via a video.

    Actor
  • I did not know what I wanted to do but took a few course and came back to take another from Kenton. I am now studying film and I love it.

    BCIT Media Student
  • I love creating an I got to have fun making my film ideas come to life.

    UBC Education
  • Even with being part of a program, I needed to challenge myself and I got to learn how to write a full feature film from Kenton.

    UBC Film Studies Alumni
  • When I die or when I am close to dying, I want to get Kenton to help me make my documentary eulogy. He said, I could make it myself and could show me how to.   Can’t wait for him to take this workshop on the road.
